MY TWO CENTS
As a priest, shepherd and teacher, I take very seriously the words Saint Paul spoke to the leaders of the Church in Ephesus before he left for Jerusalem: “Take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you guardians, to feed the Church of the Lord which he obtained with his own blood. I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore be alert ...” (Acts 20:28-31)
All of us today need help to interpret the events in the world from a Christian perspective. In a world where we are continuously bombarded by the mass media, multinational corporations, political agendas, and also by social media, we need to rethink and analyse events in the light of Christian Truth and Biblical Faith.
Vast amounts of money is being spent throughout the world in order to influence the minds of people and, dare I say, “brainwash” people to think in a certain way. Therefore, I have chosen “my two cents” as the name for this section of our website, referring to the story of the “widow’s mite” in the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Luke. In this episode, wealthy temple patrons donate large sums of money, but an impoverished widow places just two small coins, i.e. her two cents, into the offering. It is my simple contribution to help people gain a different perspective on life.
